It was a joyful moment for us, when Hasbro decided to release some figures from some good Star Wars PC games. In 2008 we could meet the full clone and the full droid row that were playable in the Battlefront 2 PC game. The exclusive set has a magna guard, a sniper/sharpshooter droid, which is called assassin droid in the game, a foot soldier who is a super battle droid, a heavy trooper which is called an assault droid, an elite unit a droideka, known as destroyer droid, and an engineer droid. You could choose from these services when you tried the game. Also, there is an extra surprise in the set, you'll find a special release of a gonk droid. It may worth to tell a few sentences from all available characters, just to know who are those droids in the set!

Magna guard

The droid commander is personated by a Magna guard in BF2. If we take a look at the left select menu on the left, we can see, they are in the fifth slot, where the clone commander is located. If so, a droid commander should be there in the droid set, but an other kind of battle droid could be boring, since they are pretty the same, just the color is different. In our case, only a yellow circle on the abdomen, and a yellow head would have differentiated them. The developer did not wanted to add an other battle droid, so they put a magna guard in the set, as a kind of commander. They do not have their usual vibrostaff, instead they got a Bulldog RLR, a radiation launcher, and neuro poison. They are able to launch a recon droid, too. If is possible, if there will be Battlefront 3, a tactical droid would be found in the place of this droid class.

Assault droid

Both the clone and the droid armies have heavy troopers. They have highly destructive weapons, which are especially good against vehicles. This is a robust weapon, which launch rockets from shoulder. Its upgraded advanced version has controllable rockets. The player can take control on these rockets after it has been launched, and he/she can navigate it directly into the selected target with the mouse. This feature, though, is not default, you have to award it with many-many game hours. You have to play with the heavy trooper, and have to achieve many critical hits on the enemy vehicles. If you manages to collect some 50-60 critical hits during your career, you'll get the award rocket launcher. But that is not an easy task. Seeing the red shoulder, we may think these droids are something to do with the security battle droid class, and maybe you are right. They are similar. However this large and powerful rocket launcher differentiate them, indeed.

Droid sniper - assassin droid

Let's examine the snipers now. We can see a really interesting camouflaged droid in the game screenshot, whose painting is similar to some kind of a wild cat or something, but you won't find that droid in the set! What is in the box is a basic battle droid, whose specific parts are painted with brown at a few areas. I think that droid would have been the best droid in the set, but with this one, we won't be satisfied at all. This assassin droid has the best sniper rifle in the whole game, we can zoom with it twice! I like this droid, so I bought a miniature sniper droid, who does not have ANY assassin droid markings at all, however his rifle is great. These assassin droids have the special ability to set the automatic defence turrets in the game, they are very valuable droids!

Superbattledroid

Let's see the foot soldiers now. They are the "ants" of all armies, mostly the simple troops carry the weight of the battles on their shoulders in the reality, too. They are fast, quickly advancing units with basic weapons. No name crowd, replaceable mass, and (unfortunately) acceptable loss, however without them no one could win a single battle, just elite units and snipers won't be enough on the battlefield. Which droid class would you name after this description? The basic battle droids, wouldn't you? I told you in the magnaguard column, that the developers seemed not willing to put only basic battledroids in the same, just differentiated with their colors. So this time they decided again to replace the basic battle droids with the SBD class. A nice grey super battle droid was packed into the set, who has a quite new torso, with a great new right arm. The conception is wrong, since the SBD is an elite droid class comparing with the basic battle droids, however with these new grey SBDs we got a really unique and a cool super battle droid figure in the set as a "foot soldier".

Droideka - destroyer droid

I mentioned elite units previously. Who are they, and why are they elites? Well, the destroyer droid has something, that the others can not do, it has a deflector shield. 2-3 thermal or ion grenades are enough to destroy its shield, however most clones don't have the needed time to throw 3 grenades towards the droideka, who easily kill the clones with his repeating blasters. The droideka can move rapidly between places, since he can roll very fast, but when rolling, he is quite difficult to maneuver. Also, he is very good at capturing and defending command posts, even for a Jedi, a destroyer droid is a formidable enemy!

Droid engineer - pilot droid

And finally there are my personal favorites, the droid engineers, who can repair and heal on the battlefield. The engineer can repair the vehicles. Every other services can pilot them, but only the engineer can repair them. In the first Battlefront game their repair ability was default, which means if they sat in a tank or in any other vehicle, and it got damaged, they could repair it immediately. But in BF2 they must disembark the vehicle to be able to use their fusion cutter, but if there is a raging battle around him, that can be very dangerous to get out from the safe vehicle. So it might be vital to slice in as many vehicles as you can during your missions. With this method you can capture enemy vehicles, and you can embark them to use them against the enemy. After many sliced vehicles you'll be awarded a "Vehicle regeneration" team bonus, which allows you to stay inside the damaged vehicle, while that is continuously regenerating itself! Also, the engineers has a "medic mode", and with that feature they can give a pack of ammunition for those fellow droids who are getting out of ammo, and a tank of some kind of liquid for the damaged droids. With these features I found them the best service of all! It is interesting that there are two similar droid classes, who can repair, has a fusion cutter, can man turrets, and cannons, who can pilot vehicles, the pilot droid and the droid engineer. However they have very similar tasks, they are differentiated with their colors, one has yellow, other has blue shoulders.

Gonk droid

The set contains a bonus gonk droid, too. The little robot gives the ammunition in the game. He is neutral, helps every battling armies, formally the gonk droid is a part of the selected level. He has a nice, brand new painting, but his torso seems to be the earlier body. You can inspect him in the bottom left corner of the upper photo of the whole set.
