Universal powers include both defensive and offensive powers.
These can be used by the Sith and by the Jedi, too. In this section you can read many of them, but not all. I would like to
introduce them, explaining what are they good for, what is their effect, and I wanna give you some examples from several sources, like from the movies, from the Clone Wars cartoon, from the Clone Wars 3D, and from a book. Hopefully you'll enjoy this.
Energy Resistance
This power
absorbs 10 points of cold, electrical, energy, fire and sonic.
After 10 points, damage is dealt normally and lasts 120 seconds. Later improved energy resistance is available, which is the same as before but absorbs 15 points of damage, and finally Master Energy Resistance absorbs 20
points of damage. Jedi Academy calls this power Force Protection, it is quite the same as Force Resistance. We could see Obi-wan Kenobi protecting himself from Durge in the Clone Wars 2D cartoon, when
Durge used his built-in flame thrower to burn Master Kenobi, who resisted with his bare hands, and Kenobi even could stop the bullets in the air like Neo did in Matrix.
Force Deflection
This power allows the Jedi or Sith to deflect blaster bolts without a lightsaber but character can not deflect bolts back at enemy but is always in effect.
We could see this Force from Darth Vader on Bespin Cloud City, when Han Solo opened fire, but Vader deflected the shots with his bare hand. (then he Force Pulled his blaster out of Han's hand, which is an other Force power.) Later in KotOR you can reach the advanced form of this, called Force Redirection which is the same as before but your character can deflect bolts back to the
enemy.
Breath Control
This power gives immunity to poisons. You learn
this on Nar Shaddaa from Kreia, when entering Jek-Jek Tarr without spacesuit with the Exile Jedi. Exile almost died first because of the
lethal gases and poisons, but Kreia taught him how to hold his breath. Mastery of this power can help the Jedi to live without breathing even for a longer period of time.
We could see the
young Obi-wan Kenobi and his master Qui Gon Jinn using breath control in the Trade Federation drop ship, when Palpatine ordered the Neimoidians to kill the two ambassador Jedi, but Obi-wan and Qui Gon
were alive when the droids opened the door to see if they died already.
Force Jump
A Jedi or Sith can use the Force to augment the user's
natural leaping ability. Force users adept in this technique could perform huge vertical/horizontal leaps. The user could leap tremendous distances when combining this technique with the Force Speed.
Force Jumps were most widely employed during lightsaber battles. This ability was performed by Yoda against Darth Sidious
and Darth Tyrannus. Force jump is one of the basic Force powers of the Jedi and Sith masters. The principle is easy: the Force-user uses the Force to push him/herself higher than a humanoid could possible attempt to jump normally. In games, it is useful in fights to confuse your opponents' aim or to throw off their attack patterns. It is also useful for getting up to high places where a normal person could not get up unaided.
In Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, the player suffers from damage when jumping high and then falls in the ground, like if falling from a high level. However, in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast this is not the case, signifying that the user performing the jump also had some immunity of gravity while using this power, so the Jedi cannot die when he falls back to the
ground, therefore he reach it softly, and safe. This is the method in the Battlefront II, too.
In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, the Jedi Guardian class has a special ability, Force Jump, which allows users to attack an enemy from far instantly by jumping, for a bonus roll at high level.
The padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi utilized a Force jump to reach a high passage when his master was
dueling Darth Maul, and the master Obi-wan
Kenobi again used it to quickly jump out from his starfighter
when crash-landed in the hangar of the Invisible Hand. Later Anakin Skywalker
Force jumped out from the stopped lift. Luke Skywalker made a Force jump when
he jumped out from the carbon freezer so quickly, that he can be hardly seen in this picture.
Throw lightsaber
It was an offensive use of the lightsaber. Target must not be within close range of the character and the lightsaber always comes back. Normal lightsaber throw
only attacks one enemy. Advanced Throw Lightsaber is better in the Kotor series, when the lightsaber is thrown it can hit up to three enemies. Enemies still must not be close range.
It is not clear if it was an ability in its own right or a technique combining powers such as Force Pull. Neither is known
whether the Force user manually locks the blade in the 'on' position, or he holds the activation button using the Force. One could throw the lightsaber like a boomerang cutting its way through obstacles and returning to the hand of the caster. Saber throw is seen only twice in the six movies, yet is comparatively common in games. This is most likely due to the desire to add a ranged dimension to
lightsabers, which are more typically thought of as
melee weapons. In the movies, saber throw is used by Yoda against a clone trooper in Revenge of the Sith, and by Darth Vader against Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi. Variations in the skill of users meant that some could hurl their lightsabers great distances, make mid-air
course corrections, or keep them hovering in place. These techniques, finely honed, could be combined to make telekinetic lightsaber combat possible. Telekinetic lightsaber combat techniques made use of telekinesis in lightsaber combat. Some telekinetic lightsaber combat techniques, like the Saber throw, were offensive, while others were defensive. A defensive technique, called the
Saber barrier, was used by practitioners of dual saber combat. It consisted in having the lightsabers whirl in a circle around the Jedi, thus creating a defensive, but deadly, wall. Jaden Korr
makes it in the game Jedi Academy with two sabers around his body. Darth Traya displayed the most remarkable form of telekinetic lightsaber combat-having the ability to wield three lightsabers independently in combat, holding each of them aloft with the Force, and having them fight with a will of their own. Luke and Mara Jade also displayed a great form of telekinetic lightsaber combat, when they placed a lightsaber on the ground, Luke lured a dangerous destroyer droid above it, and Mara ignited and used that saber telekinetically to destroy that droideka in the book Survivor Quest.
Force Camouflage
Requirements: Level 1 Sith assassin or Jedi Watchman.
Allows character to be in Stealth mode without the use of a stealth field
generator. Improved Force Camouflage Requirements: Level 7 Sith Assassin or Jedi Watchman.
Same as before but adds +4 to stealth. Master Force Camouflage Requirements: Level 13 Sith Assassin or Jedi Watchman.
Same as before but adds +8 to stealth. We could see it in the New Hope movie, when the old Obi-wan Kenobi walked amongst the
stormtroopers without being detected. He could even generate
strange noises from the opposite directions, that attracted the attention of the stormtroopers, so they turned away, and Kenobi could run away after he switched off the tractor beam generator.
Force Sight
Learned from Visas in KotOR2 and allows the character to see the alignment of NPC-s, and to see through walls. It is a Force Power from the Expanded Universe, and from gaming.
Very similar to the Force Sense ability from Jedi Academy, when Jaden Korr could see invisible marks, and symbols on the walls, and above doors. It was used as a key, without seeing the symbols, and without typing them in the door interface,
no one could enter the room, just the Jedis.
Force Precognition
Warns the player of danger, but these warnings are rare but is always active
during the game. Yoda and Mace Windu felt something is about, but couldn't figure out what, because Palpatine clouded their minds. However we often hear in the Star Wars movies: I have a bad feeling about this. It means the character feels something bad gonna
happen. Atton Rand has a great sense of Precognition, you can trust his
feelings about danger.
Telekinesis
was
a neutral ability that most Force-sensitives had. With it, they could lift objects according to their concentration and move them, hovering the items in any direction. This ability was the base for Force Pull, Force Throw and Force Push, as well as telekinetic lightsaber combat techniques such as Saber Throw. On Dagobah, Yoda told Luke Skywalker that the size and weight of an object is only relevant in the mind of the practitioner, and that once the mental distinction about an object's size can be
let go of, objects of any size can be moved. Yoda demonstrated this by lifting Luke's X-wing out of the
swamp. Revan used it to lift and move several objects, including two chairs and a data pad around himself in a circular motion, while he also elevated himself in a technique called Floating
Meditation in the Jedi Academy on Dantooine. Anakin Skywalker used it when he lifted a piece of fruit to cut for Padme Amidala and returned one of the pieces to her. Count Dooku employed it during his battle against Master Yoda on Geonosis, and again while dueling Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin
Skywalker on board the Invisible Hand. Palpatine used it against Master Yoda in his battle in the Senate Building. Kreia used it while battling
against the Jedi Exile. In perhaps the most stunning display of telekinesis is when Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice Galen Marek
used telekinesis to bring down a Star Destroyer
in the game Star Wars Force Unleashed.
