The
Republic
Commando droid is a unique but fictive droid model, not a real concept, they were only created for the game. But they are very original, spectacular, and cute. They have a very
unique black eye visor like thing, kind of pair of
glasses like thing. Very possibly they can see in the dark with this. The
clones has a special visor mode, built in their helmet, so they can answer
the same problem
in
the dark. And they are better armored then the real B1 droids, on the shoulder they have a thicker armor, and
on the head.
Their color, and outfit is also unique. Weird, however the Delta squad meet them on Geonosis, they are different from the Trade Federation droid’s color, and very different from the red CIS droids.
Of course they more look like the Trade Fed droids, but still different. They have some screen like thing on the chest upper area, under the neck. There are red system lights on it. This is absolute a new, and a unique thing.
Their armor is dirty, and battle damaged, covered with the Geonosian sand, oil, and other things. But what is funny, they are
absolutely the same, they have the same
dirt on the same areas, the whole droid army is completely the same! Maybe the developers were lazy to make some variants, only one skin was created, and all the droids got the same
outfit. As the were twins, they are the same. But in other features they look like the standard B1 droids.
Tactically, they are similar, too. That means they are in large groups, attacking together, because
separately they are weak. They are the mass majority of the infantry, they are like a cloud of mosquitos, one by one they are weak and annoying, biting your arm and face like a mosquito, but
together their damage can be significant. So were you meet them, they come in groups. Then they ungroup, and start firing from different angles, from all around. Until you kill them all, you’ll be injured for sure. And we haven’t mentioned the heavy infantry yet,
because if there are SBDs, droidekas, spider droids, or elite geonosisians, you’ll be wise to prepare. There will be large battles, as they are together the Separatist army itself, a powerful and dreadful enemy.
An other tactical move has to be mentioned. The
Republic commando battle droids often crouch down, to give minimal target from themselves, therefor they are more difficult to hit. We will often see crouched droids everywhere, waiting for us to attack from down on the ground, or from behind cover, or even from open areas.
When they are alarmed, we will see them running in small squads, as the stormtroopers ran in the Death Star to their destination points. When the Falcon entered their space station, and the
stormtrooper where sent to they suspected the intruders, they moved pretty the same way as these droids. While running, they do not notice smaller things,
they do not pay attention just to reach the destination area as soon as possible. They want to reach the strategic points, so while they run, it is easy the flank them, and attack them from the side. Or you can stay in cover, and sneak slowly, or do not move, C-3PO and R2-D2 did on the Death Star. But keep in mind, if you attack them while running, they will stop running to the destination areas, and turn to you, answering the fire. While attacking, one or two will notify the others via radio, so the reinforcements will arrive soon. It can be a fast moving drodieka or even a droid dispenser, a large machinery, a container, which transports and plants droids to the danger area. It can be transported on the rails all over running on the ceilings, reaching almost everywhere in seconds. If it will be
planted an area, it starts pouring some kind of droids from it. It can be B1 droid, but also there are SBD or Destroyer Droid dispensers, too. And that would be a real pain. Also, keep in mind, that you cannot destroy all droids, they will come endlessly from the dispenser, it cannot be depleted, so the droids just keep on pouring from an area, you can be sure, a dispenser is there. So do not stay where you are, even if you are behind cover, leave it, and find that dispenser. The clever AI often plant it a neighboring room, or to a nearby area, where it can be unnoticed. If you do not find it, and detonate it, it will work to the eternity, and your ammo will be depleted, or you’ll be injured, or even killed because of the constant swarm of different droids, which will finally overwhelm you and your squad.
In the game
Republic
Commando there are no pilot droids, or other real droid classes, so the same battle droids that we encounter all around are operating the
consoles too. We’ll see them some places, mostly on aboard the Lucrehulc core ship, as they are monitoring some functions of the ship, and pressing he buttons. They are mostly passive, they don’t attack us like they did while running to a location in groups, as I mentioned above. They are concentrating on the monitors, checking them, but if we make some
noise, or if we attack them they finish their work, and attack us. If only a single droid will notice us that will be enough to face
them all, as they will attack together, so you’d better avoid them, or destroy them quickly. The
erupting firefight is pretty cool, the droids got some great damage models, for example they
can loose their head, spinning without it shooting blindly all over. But the
whole upper body can be destroyed, the legs will move some steps ahead, or they collapse with other droids, or the wall. This is
very cool, and funny sometimes. However you cannot make damages on their armor shelling. As I mentioned above, only one skin was created, so burned, shot, or scared
impacts, damages cannot be made on them. Sometimes they say something, then they fall on
the
ground deactivated that is all. The dead droids will remain on the floor for a
short period of time, then they disappear, so to let the system memory calculate the newer surroundings and enemies. But in this stationary position the writer of
their article can make some screenshots about the droids, they don’t move, or shoot all the time at least, they give great amount of superb pictures to illustrate this Republic Commando droid material.
