Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 |
Let me
introduce my first custom thug figure. I made it earlier, than my thug 2
figure, yet, I have already introduced the second, but I haven't showed the first one. It is
high time to introduce my other custom thug figure for you. "Thug" is slang for a gangster, an assassin, a petty thief, or a minor villain. In the KotOR
series the thugs do the bad things, to tell the truth in a pretty wide
variety. They are the bad guys, the goons, the robbers, the evil-doers,
brigands, muggers, ruffians, salvagers, bandits, bullies, fetch men,
raiders, hell raisers. Their behavior is usually pretty aggressive, they will often intimidate us, or the innocent
citizens. Of course they do this well armed, and in groups. This is why
we call them gangsters, since gangster are criminals who are members of a
violent crime organization, a gang. Gangsters needed to stick together, the gang provided them great poverty, the individuals were stronger together, and had bigger chances for success. Many criminals can intimidate and terrorize the
citizens easily. Gangsters typically organize or make crimes for power, or profit, but sometimes simply for their pleasure, or for fun. Gangs
sometimes turn on each other, to decide which organization is the stronger, and who will rule the territory. Violence can vary from shoot-outs, and can escalate in
gang wars occasionally. The bigger gangs sometimes gain so much strength that they try to manipulate the decisions of civil institutions, or the politics, or the leaders, so they sometimes get involved into high politics, and gain power to influence the governments. These thugs took part in the telosian fights in KotOR2, and they had a great importance in the Dark Side story, when their leader, Azkul, and the
undercover man, Zheron took over the Dantooine government.
too.
Even a Jedi Master, Vrook, was captured by Azkul. Vrook was locked in a forcecage in a cave, at Dantooine. When the Exile noticed this, and wanted to exit this cave, he was waited by Azkul and 6-7 of his totally look alike mercenaries. Azkul wanted to offer him a job. This is the final Light/Dark choice for Dantooine in the game. Light Siders have to side with Khoonda, so you'll have to fight against Azkul and his basically identical twin-looking mercenary goons with the same black beard. Then you have to go back to the Khoonda building, and to have it prepared for the soon expectable thug attack, as you can read in my Akkere article. But this time Azkul had to hire a new army, so to replace the previously killed thugs with the black beard, he hired a large,
Asian looking army, but again, this guys are totally the same, they look like a big family with the same genes, and faces, which is beginning to be pretty boring. Also, it is very hard to differentiate them, who has been already damaged, and since they are constantly moving, it is difficult to concentrate to one of them, to finish him, you'll often realize that you are fighting an other one. By the way, in your fight you'll be assisted by Akkere, who has been already introduced at CustomStarWars, and there I mentioned an other Sullustan, who was intimidated by very similar thugs in front of the Telosian Entertaining module, poor little fellow asked help from the Exile.
Dark Siders have to side with Azkul, and to help him weaken Khoonda
defences, and to help the battle against Administrator Terena's forces, and finally you have to fight a one-on-one battle with Jedi master Vrook, who tried to protect the government, and Terena. After you defeat him, Azkul thanks the
assistance of the dark Exile, pays his part of the loot, and an extra amount of credits, which we can rise even higher, if we have a high PERSUADE, then Azkul goes off and kills Terena personally, taking her position.
After Darth Malak has found out in KotOR1 that the Jedi Enclave is located on Dantooine, he had it attacked so the once symbolic and attractive Jedi building was destroyed. Many Jedi died under the ruins, and many valuable goods became trapped under the stones. We will meet some thugs in KotOR2 who specialized for expeditions down in the depth, to find the
Jedi bodies, to undress them, to take their possessions, and emptying their valuables from their crates, stealing their lightsabers,
they disturbed their peace, desecrating their rest, like the foreign tomb raiders desecrated the
pyramids of the Egyptian pharaohs. But there were such thugs who didn't want to risk their lives, and to organize expeditions into the chasms, they rather decided to let other thugs go down, and when the tired raiders came back, they attacked them, and took their loot, killing them.
They used these loot for their own needs, and a remaining significant part
of it was sold on the black-market. Such a salvager was not so lucky, because he met with a Jedi apprentice, who's been stationing in the sublevels, trying to protect the artifacts and the place itself. The picture says the thug was killed by a lightsaber, so obviously it was Disciple, who finished off this thug.
By the way, armor. You surely noticed that these thugs all wore a really attractive, greyish underwear, covered with a yellow thick leather armor, an above all of these, they took a silver chest armor, a knee plate, a shoulder armor, and had an interesting red pair of gloves.
This is a war Heavy Armor. It is not the best armor of the game, but the picture says it is close to it. (I doubt it, however.) It was
designed for militias, to protect them from ranged weapons. It gives 8 extra defence point, but decreases your dexterity bonus to +1. It is recommended if you use ranged weapons, since you don't have to jump around in it, just stay stationary, and fire. (However that is not true again, since a successful hit with a rifle mostly depends of your skill of that weapon AND your DEX.) During melee weapon fights it didn't supported the free move. That is why the Echani race, who preferred the fast moving melee fight techniques, didn't like these armors, as I mentioned in my Handmaiden article. Furthermore the armors won't let you to use Force Powers, so Jedi Consulars didn't used armors, maybe the fighting Jedi, who didn't used Powers often, they preferred lightsabers, but in this garment they could move very acrobatically, neither. However it was not a problem for the Thugs, they had not got Force Powers, didn't really liked the swords, (however you can force them to melee fight if you run in to their close range,) they felt more comfortable with a rifle in the hand, so this armor was a perfect solution for them. And a bunch of well-armed and well-armored thugs can be a really big threat in the KotOR series...
Similar well armed thugs will be waiting for the Exile team if they arrive, or rather crash down at the Telos plateau. After they were saved by
Bao Dur from the wreckage, he accompanies the team, to help them get away from the planet. Of course, first they have to fight their way through the welcoming party, first these three thugs, and the droid, what supported them. Let me focus your attention again for the twin problem, the left and the right thug looks like identical twins, the middle one could be the brother of the thug team, what was
waiting for us in front of the Dantooine cave. He missed that fight some why, and now he seeks for revenge. His sword and rifle were taken by the
brothers, so this time he equipped with a force pike, and learning from their brother's death, he has a
personal shield. The formation may make us think they have some military experience or
knowledge, but they are not so clever enough, to take cover behind that speeder, and to fire our arriving party from behind it. They are rather bandits, they block our way, standing in front of us, like the bandits centuries ago, who stopped the post car, or the passengers, to take their goods. Sometimes we will meet better and stronger thugs, who had military trainings, and who are war veterans. If we go to the
abandoned telosian military base, such veteran thugs will try to keep us away. These mercenaries however don't like to accompany with rookies, because the success, and the loot could cost them, if a green ruined their plans with tactical mistakes or due to their poor equipments. So better thugs sometimes joined military formations, such as a mandalorian squads, for example these thugs joined Esok's free squad at Dantooine. Some rookie thugs, who remained alone, for example if his team was slaughtered, and he ran away throwing his weapons away, became homeless, wandering around the Galaxy, trying to find valuable things, or at least food in other garbage pile. This dude for example is living at Iziz, and trying to survive by salvaging garbage piles, and rubbish, walking up and down in the streets. Anyway, since he is neutral, and won't attack, he is a perfect model, if you stand close to him, you can observe his armor from both directions. And finally, you can watch this war armor on a prominent person, Ghadon Thek, who was the leader of the Hidden Bek gang, who were stationing in their Lower tarisian base. However Gadon does not put on the armor plates, the leather upper suit is very similar. He feels confident and safe in his well guarded base, in addition, he has a
personal twi'lek bodyguard, who always take an eye on him. A Dark Revan can make benefit from this overconfidence, even killing the leader in his own room. after "making an agreement" with him. This is very useful form dark Side players, because you can finish BOTH opposing tribes, the Black Vulkars, and the Hidden Beks, gain a lot of experience, and many many lootable items, and credits.
You can not only watch this awesome war heavy armor on the thugs, but you can even take it on! But to do this, your character has to have the ability to wear heavy armors. Soldiers have it initially, but the others can spend their points to have it developed while
levelling up the character, too. Let me introduce our model Carth Onasi,
he will wear a heavy war armor during our fashion show. Come on, Carth,
don't be shy, spin around to show the heavy war armor for the guys!
Front view, rear view! :-) Carth is a soldier, he can take it on, he can
fire with his pistols from a great distance
without moving, or jumping in this armor, so he won't bother himself to
dress in a thick armor. He is not a Force-user, so he can have many benefits
from this armor! Take a look at both thug armors, that I have introduced here at CustomStarWars, worn by Carth and Canderous!

Take a look at my custom Thug figure!
Not
only the thugs motivated me, to create this custom figure, because there are
several kinds of bad guys. The armor impressed me. Many thugs wear this
heavy war armor in the game, but I tried to model this asian man from Kotor2, who I
saw in the Dantooine Khoonda. He is a very unique character, nowhere else was seen, or very rare, to it was a
challenge to make him a custom figure. Before he was slaughtered, he volunteered to be our model. :-)
